Cognition and Learning

What is Cognition and Learning?

Cognition and learning refers to the general learning.  Pupils with needs or difficulties in this area may learn at a slower pace to their peers, find it difficult to acquire skills, have low levels of attainment across subjects or struggle with problem solving.

Specific learning difficulties including Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Dyscalculia, moderate learning difficulties/global learning delay.

Here at St Philip's we support all children with their learning in a variety of fun, multi-sensory, active learning approaches which helps children to know and remember more.

As stated in the SEND Code of Practice 2015:

'Support for learning difficulties may be required when children and young people learn at a slower pace then their pears, even with appropriate differentiation. Learning difficulties cover a wide range of needs, including moderate learning difficulties (MLD), severe learning difficulties (SLD), where children are likely to need support in all areas of the curriculum and associated difficulties with mobility and communication, through to profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD), where children are likely to have severe and complex learning difficulties as well as physical disabilities or sensory impairments.

Specific Learning difficulties (SpLD) affect one or more aspects of learning. This encompasses a range of conditions such as dyslexia, dyscalculia and dyspraxia.'
